Common Cause workshops

INTRO - SATURDAY 17 OCTOBER (3 hours)
This interactive workshop will introduce people to the science behind Common Cause. We’ll explore how the values system works - outlining:
- the Schwartz model of 58 universal values
- how values interact in predictable ways
- how different values influence people’s environmental attitudes and behaviours
- how values can be primed / engaged
We’ll also explore how values are activated by communication frames and practice analysing the values and frames used in a variety of communication examples.

FULL DAY INTENSIVE - SUNDAY 18 OCTOBER (7 hours)
In this full-day workshop we’ll dig deeper into values and frames and how to apply the Common Cause approach in practice.
We’ll start by busting a number of common myths about values that are undermining the ability of organisations working on social and environmental issues to engage the public effectively and to achieve transformative change.
Participants will then apply their new understanding of values and frames to re-frame three WA-based conservation campaigns, before exploring how to re-frame their own campaigns and communications.
Finally, we’ll explore the broader implications of the Common Cause approach on organisational strategy and the opportunities it presents for new forms of collaboration.
