Gardening for Beginners Workshop Series @ Hilton Harvest
Sunday 21st May, 28th May and 4th June – 9:30am till 12 noon
Come down to Hilton Harvest Community Garden and join the friendly gardeners to learn how to start a veggie garden at your home. We will go over all the basics to get you growing your own food with confidence and without breaking your budget!
There will be three sessions, facilitated by Sarah Nix, Amy Warne and Nate Anderson at a total cost of $40 for all three sessions.
We ask that all participants become members of the garden before booking in, which give you access to the garden and all the wonderful workshops on offer (half year memberships = single $15 (conc $5), couple/family $22.50 (conc $7.50).
All sessions will run promptly from 9:30am – 12:00pm and will be hands on, with plenty of time to practice what you are learning and to ask questions of our three experienced gardeners. Tea, coffee and morning tea included.
SESSION 1 - SEEDS, SEEDLINGS AND FERTILISER TEAS
Covering:
• Introduction to home gardening – 3 basic ingredients
• Growing from seed in home made seed-raising mix
• Seed saving
• How to make your own fertiliser tea
SESSION 2 – WORMS AND COMPOST
Covering:
• How to worm farm at home
• How to make your own worm farm – on the cheap
• How to compost at home
SESSION 3 – SOIL PREP AND PLANTING YOUR GARDEN
Covering:
• How to improve your soil
• Types of irrigation and watering systems
• How to plant our your garden
• Veggie gardening troubleshooting
