Informed speakers will argue for retention of Underwood Avenue Bushland. The protection of the bushland is critical for the survival into the future of Carnaby’s cockatoos. Forest Red-tailed Black-cockatoos also have fed there daily for over 1000 days.
There will also be an opportunity to meet Black Cockatoos from Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre.
Speakers include Paul Hardisty (Director, Land and Water National Research Flagship at CSIRO and UWA Adjunct Professor) and Bronwen Keighery (Botanist) with two speakers also invited from the University of Western Australia.
Friends of Underwood Bushland (FUAB) has been campaigning since 1999 to have the bushland conserved in its entirety and has long been opposed to UWA’s proposed housing development on the bushland. This will be an opportunity to get an update and to hear views from both sides of the issue. FUAB proposes an alternative vision for the bushland and seeks to work together with UWA for a win win outcome, whereby the bushland is conserved for future generations.
This invitation is to the wider community, especially members of the Western Suburbs to have their say on this issue. We encourage as many people as possible to attend.
