In September, US mining giant Alcoa was caught misleading the public with claims about its jarrah forest rehabilitation efforts in Western Australia.
After 60 years of operation, not a single hectare of Alcoa’s "rehabilitation" has been signed off by the WA Government as complete. Yet the company continues to claim it has rehabilitated 75% of the forest it had mined - a claim that Ad Standards Australia recently ruled was false and in breach of the Environmental Claims Code, following complaints from CCWA, WA Forest Alliance and the Wilderness Society.
Despite this, Alcoa continues to pour money into greenwashing - sponsoring biodiversity events and running ads designed to disguise the lasting damage to our forests, wildlife and water.
Together, we can hold Alcoa to account and expose the truth.
