What Change Is Needed To End Forest Mining Expansions

We need the protection of our forests and woodlands.

The South West’s forests and woodlands have been significantly degraded and fragmented by more than a century of logging; continued clearing for mining, agriculture and development; inappropriate fire regimes and
other unsustainable management activities. Now, climate change is accelerating their decline.

We must act now to remove destructive threats and improve ecosystem resilience.

With the end of native forest logging, the next State Government must deliver on its promise to permanently protect 700,000ha of native forests - without delay.

Ending Forest Mining expansions and protecting our South West forests, requires long-term, transformative change. Find out more here.

To end forest mining expansions we need:

  1. An expanded network of protected areas in the Northern Jarrah Forests
  2. The WA Environmental Protection Authority to conduct strategic advice on the state of the Northern Jarrah Forests bioregion
  3. Increased funding for rapid bushfire suppression
  4. A permanent ban on mining in all water Reservoir Protection Zones
  5. An updated and implemented Biodiversity Strategy for WA to protect and restore WA’s ecosystems
  6. To limit to the use of environmental offsets in WA and stringent criteria for offsets to ensure absolute gains in habitat and biodiversity
  7. Improved government consultation standards to ensure meaningful and ongoing public participation in environmental decision-making.

To make this happen, we need you to get involved in the campaign.
