Significant changes are on the horizon for the Abrolhos Islands with provision being made for a major
expansion in aquaculture and proposals for increased tourist development based on the archipelagos
natural and historical attractions.
This forum will focus on natural resource management (NRM) at the
Abrolhos and the implications of future developments on the strategies used to protect the ecosystem and
its environmental assets. A range of speakers have been invited to present on current government policy,
ecosystem-based fisheries management, aquaculture development, managing tourism impacts, natural
resource management activities, threatened species and the monitoring of marine and island ecosystems.
