The Conservation Council of WA (CCWA) and the Plastic Free WA alliance have welcomed the confirmation by the McGowan Government that a statewide ban on single use plastic shopping bags will be in place by July 1 2018. This is earlier that previously announced.

Sustainable transport and renewable energy are featured in the McGowan Government’s first budget, which also includes funding for new protected areas in the Kimberley, a substantial Aboriginal Ranger program, and a 10c recycling refund scheme for beverage containers.

Today Yeelirrie Traditional Owners ended their month long Walkatjurra Walkabout against uranium mining as the WA Supreme Court confirmed a date to hear their case against the environmental approval for the Yeelirrie uranium proposal on their traditional lands.

WA Labor today reaffirmed its commitment to action on climate change, gas fracking, renewable energy, and biodiversity protection laws, as hundreds of community members rallied outside the WA Labor Conference to support a Frack Free Future for WA.
