Conservation groups today welcomed the introduction of new biodiversity legislation into the WA State Parliament by Hon. Albert Jacob Minister for the Environment and Heritage.

Environment groups, scientists and community members have been pushing for new biodiversity laws to replace the outdated and ineffective 1950 Wildlife Conservation Act for several decades.

Shareholders at Perth based company Paladin’s AGM will call for the non-operational Kayelekera uranium mine in Malawi to be closed and rehabilitated. Calls for rehabilitation follow years of community opposition to the mine and failure to prevent the release of radioactive material into the environment.

Western Australia’s peak environment group has renewed calls for a ban on gas fracking in WA following the release of a Parliamentary Inquiry report into the unconventional gas industry in the state.

Western Australia’s peak environment group has welcomed the announcement of a Taskforce to plan a transition for Collie away from its reliance on coal industries.

CCWA Director Piers Verstegen said "This agreement stacks the table against the growing number of communities and landowners across WA who are trying to protect their land and water from the prospect of polluting, invasive gasfields."

Conservation groups highlight fracking risks to shareholders at Norwest Energy AGM

Shareholders at Norwest Energy AGM today were met by conservation groups today highlighting community and industry opposition to the company’s gas fracking plans in the Mid West.
