Woodside reports record production as WA’s coral reefs experience record bleaching

In response to Woodside’s 2025 Annual Report released today, the Conservation Council of WA (CCWA) said taking pride in a ‘year of record production’ while climate change wreaks havoc on Western Australians was damning.

CCWA Executive Director Matt Roberts said that in the report, Woodside gloats that in 2025 it produced more fossil fuels than ever before.

“But as Woodside keeps its foot on the gas, Australia has sweltered. Our cities, our regions and our oceans have all seen devastating heatwaves during this same period,” Mr Roberts said.

“We’ve seen homes lost, people die, forests burn and our coral reefs bleach. Perhaps Woodside would like to buy naming rights to future heatwaves to take credit where it’s due?

“Woodside is about to appoint a new CEO. This is an opportunity for renewal, to change direction and walk away from doomed, climate-wrecking projects like the Browse gas development at Scott Reef, which has already failed multiple times. These projects only double-down on the stress communities and our environment are already experiencing,” Mr Roberts said.

“We need our state and federal governments to wake up to the reality of climate change. We need a climate change act and climate impacts to be factored into all planning through an overarching climate policy framework.

“Long-term sustainable planning that prioritises the health and safety of people needs to prevail over short-term profits and politics."
