CCWA announce Jess Beckerling as Executive Director

The Conservation Council of WA (CCWA), the state’s foremost environmental conservation organisation, is pleased to announce the appointment of Jess Beckerling as Executive Director.

Jess is one of WA’s leading environmental campaigners, most recently in her capacity as Director of the WA Forest Alliance (WAFA) – a position she held for 13 years – and as a campaigner for the South Coast Environmental Group.

Jess has won numerous awards for leadership and environmental campaigning, and was inducted into the WA Women’s Hall of Fame in 2023 for her contribution to the field of environmental conservation.

“I am delighted to be stepping into this role”, said Jess.

“WA needs to dramatically improve our performance on climate and nature protection. CCWA plays a critical role in this, and I am excited to work with the team to ramp up the campaigns and reestablish a resilient and collaborative culture in the organisation".

“I have had a great grounding in the WA environment movement. I am coming into the role with determination and energy and a commitment to bringing people together and getting things done.” – Jess Beckerling.

CCWA President, Dr Richard Yin, said “We are thrilled to be welcoming Jess with her expertise and campaign experience to CCWA. Jess has achieved so much for the Western Australian environment through her work with WAFA, and we cannot wait to see the organisation grow under her leadership.”

Jess holds a Bachelor of Environmental Science from Murdoch University, and has been the recipient of the Bob Brown Foundation Environmentalist of the Year Award (2021), Conservation Council of WA Bessie Rieschbeith Award (2015) and the United Nations Association of Western Australia’s Environment Award (2022, awarded to WAFA).

Jess will work with CCWA’s recently renewed Executive Committee, who were elected at the
organisation’s 2023 AGM in November.
