CCWA's 2024 Annual Conference - Nature First

The Conservation Council of WA is proud to host our Annual Conference for 2024 - Nature First - Centring Nature in our Thinking

Join us on Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 of November at The Wetlands Centre, Cockburn. Building on our sold-out Conference last year, UPLIFT: Supporting the work of youth and Aboriginal people in the conservation sector, we look forward to facilitating meaningful conversations and providing you access to quality keynotes, interesting case studies, purpose-driven workshops and inspirational success stories.

This year's theme, Nature First, focuses on addressing critical environmental challenges such as climate change, ecosystem collapse, waterway protection, restoration and the nature laws and planning approach we need to deliver the energy transition. Putting nature first entails prioritising the conservation and protection of natural habitats and biodiversity in all aspects of decision-making, particularly in project planning and execution.

A key aspect of Nature First is understanding and valuing the relationship between people and nature. This involves learning from the deep insights and traditional knowledge of First Nations communities in WA, whose connection to Country is an integral part of their culture and way of life. Their knowledge and expertise are crucial and should be included in conservation efforts. By recognising and valuing their role, we ensure that Indigenous knowledge, which offers valuable insights and practices for addressing environmental challenges, has a meaningful impact on decision-making and conservation strategies.

The Conference has been designed to maximise the opportunities for attendees to create new connections and build on existing ones in engaging ways. Alongside presentations, facilitated workshops, and a Member Group Expo there will be a variety of networking opportunities, as well as our annual sundowner and 30th Community Conservation Awards.

Your conference ticket includes access to the full conference, sundowner, exhibition and catering. We'll also be offering a free shuttle service to the Wetlands Centre from Murdoch train station! 🚐✨
