Accounting for Biodiversity Change in the Yarra Yarra Catchment
Plantations to sequester carbon have been established on former broadacre farmland in the Yarra Yarra catchment. The earliest plantings commenced around 2008 and are currently continuing. The core woody life-form cultivated is the local York Gum Eucalyptus loxophleba supraleavis, a dominant woodland species that has been substantially cleared from the more fertile pink sandy loams of the northern wheatbelt.
