Bats make up about a quarter of all Australian mammal species, yet there is still so much we don’t know about these fascinating creatures. This makes it difficult for us to assess how populations are faring across Western Australia.
Our broad-scale, long-term monitoring program will help us shed some light on these unknowns and give bat populations the best chance to thrive.
Become a ‘bat champion’ and get involved with one or more of our citizen science bat monitoring opportunities, which include:
- Roost counts
- Counting bats as they emerge from a roost
- Bat walks
- Walking a set transect and recording the bats you see and hear
- Bat call acoustic analysis
There will also be the opportunity to get involved with bat echolocation call collection and bat detector building workshops.
