The big gas rip off
Despite being one of the largest gas exporters in the world, West Australians receive less royalties from the gas industry than we pay in beer tax.
Meanwhile, companies like Woodside have taken billions of dollars’ worth of gas earmarked for WA – and sold it overseas for profit. Then claim we have a gas shortage.
Under WA’s domestic gas reservation policy, LNG exporters are meant to reserve 15% of their gas for the local market. According to a Parliamentary Inquiry, they’ve only delivered 8%.
If gas corporations were contributing their fair share, WA would have more than enough gas. We don't need enormous new gas projects - like Woodside's Browse proposal at Scott Reef - which are devastating for our climate and marine environment, and return virtually nothing to West Australians.
