Australia’s nature is in decline. It’s time to demand action from the Prime Minister.
Over the past year, 41 new species were added to Australia’s threatened species list. We’re seeing the devastating impacts of climate change on our land and seas, and our outdated environment laws aren’t up to the task of protecting what we love.
In 2021, the Graeme Samuel review made it clear: our natural environment is in decline, and the EPBC Act is outdated and failing. The Albanese Government promised to fix this - but now, under pressure from WA's mining lobby, the Prime Minister is backing down. With the election looming, this may be our last chance to secure better protections before a potential government change puts them out of reach.
Here’s how you can help:
-
Call the Prime Minister
Tell him that stronger nature laws are essential, and that you’ll be voting for candidates who protect the environment. See our step-by-step guide here.
-
Send a Written Message
Reinforce your message by sending a follow-up message via the PM's contact form. Personalised messages have the most impact.
Talking Points for Calls and Emails:
- Australia’s nature is in crisis – 41 more species were added to the threatened species list over the past year.
- Our environmental laws are failing – The 2021 Graeme Samuel review found they are outdated and ineffective.
- The mining lobby doesn’t represent us – WA voters want stronger nature protections, not corporate influence over policy.
- I will be voting for nature in the upcoming election.
- We need real action before the election – Stronger nature laws and rejection of Woodside’s North West Shelf and South32’s forest mining expansions.
