More than 1,200 hand-written postcards have been delivered to Premier Roger Cook, calling on him to protect Scott Reef from Woodside’s Browse gas export proposal.

Kim Giddens MLA with Victoria Pavy and Mia Pepper of CCWA.
Staff from the Conservation Council of Western Australia (CCWA) hand-delivered the postcards to Parliament House yesterday, saying the reef "cannot be sacrificed for gas export profits.”
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for the Environment and Member for Bateman Kim Giddens accepted the postcards on behalf of Premier Cook.
CCWA campaigner Victoria Pavy said Western Australians of all ages and backgrounds signed postcards at community events and film screenings across the state, urging the Premier to save Scott Reef from gas exporters.
“Scott Reef is a pristine, 15-million-year-old marine ecosystem off WA’s north-west coast and is habitat for protected species like the pygmy blue whale and green sea turtle,” Ms Pavy said.
“Western Australians treasure our coral reefs, and we won’t stand by and allow Scott Reef to be wrecked in the name of multinational companies making super profits from royalty-free gas exports.
“Woodside and its joint venture partners, including BP, plan to drill up to 57 wells around Scott Reef as part of the Browse gas export project, with the closest gas well less than three kilometres from the edge of the reef.
“The Browse gas export project would put the entire reef system and surrounding ocean at risk of toxic spills and pipeline blowouts, while releasing more than 1.6 billion tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere, fuelling the climate crisis.
“In addition, extracting large amounts of gas from under the seabed could cause the seafloor to sink, destroying turtle nesting habitat on Sandy Islet, at the heart of the reef system.”
