A festival of music, art and ocean wonder is set to light up Perth’s Wellington Square on 21 November with artists, musicians and giant illuminated sea creatures bringing the wonder of Scott Reef to the city.

The free festival, Scott Reef Rising, organised by the Save Scott Reef Alliance, is a family-friendly event designed to celebrate Australia’s largest standalone coral atoll and its incredible diversity of marine life.

The lineup, announced today, includes ARIA award-winning duo Electric Fields, Western Australian music icon and POND lead singer Nicholas Allbrook, WAM’s 2025 folk singer-songwriter act of the year Anna Schneider and RTRFM DJ Rok Riley, alongside a special guest performer, yet to be announced.

The event will also feature a site-specific immersive performance, Emergent Sea, by Newcastle-based theatre company Curious Legends. Emergent Sea will showcase giant illuminated puppets of sea life found at Scott Reef, including whales and rays. Community volunteers will be invited to be part of the performance and help bring Scott Reef to life.

Scott Reef Rising is expected to run from 4pm – 9pm on Saturday 21 November, drawing families and young adults from across Perth to Wellington Square.

“We’re really excited to bring the wonder of Scott Reef to Perth,” said Save Scott Reef Alliance spokesperson Greta Carroll.

“Incredible Australian bands and performers will come together to show Perth the magical world of Scott Reef, so they can learn, play, dance and fall in love with this unique and diverse ecosystem.”

“At Scott Reef Rising, the ocean will be putting on a show. Families will come for the music, and rise for the reef,” Ms Carroll said.

“Scott Reef is a 15-million-year-old coral atoll off the coast of Broome. Its unique and extraordinary marine life is something we think is worth protecting.

“Multinational gas corporation Woodside Energy has plans to drill up to 57 wells around Scott Reef, risking catastrophic oil spills and disrupting precious marine habitat. We want to show Western Australians what’s at risk, before it’s too late.”

The Save Scott Reef Alliance includes the Conservation Council of WA, Australian Marine Conservation Society, Greenpeace Australia Pacific, the Australian Conservation Foundation, Environs Kimberley and Surfers for Climate.
