If you thought Roe 8 Highway extension was going to clear a lot of precious bushland, wait until you see what is planned for Bidaminna…
Bidaminna.
Just near Moore River National Park, a mineral sands mining project has been proposed.
The site is called Bidaminna.
This is the biggest area of banksia woodlands approved for clearing in WA since it became a nationally-listed threatened ecological community in 2016.
We love the Moore River region area for its nature.
It holds remarkable biodiversity and provides critical habitat for many species including the Black Cockatoos.
In fact, the conservation significance of this site is so precious that the site was earmarked for a conservation reserve before the plan was scrapped by the WA Labor government.
Clearing of this high-quality habitat would be a devastating biodiversity loss.
Western Australia must prioritise the protection and restoration of threatened ecological communities.
Black Cockatoos are being driven to extinction due to mounting threats and cumulative impacts, which includes a lack of strategic assessments of bioregions across the State.
If you think this critical habitat is worth protecting and you share concerns about this Proposal, there is something important you can do.
Have your say.
