Urban Bushland Council WA is the peak community organisation dedicated to the recognition and protection of urban bushland in Western Australia. Representing over 80 community conservation groups, the Council advocates for the conservation of remnant vegetation across the Perth, Peel, and Busselton regions. As a voluntary, non-government organisation, the Council collaborates with local groups to safeguard the ecological integrity of urban natural areas — many of which are vital habitat for WA’s black cockatoos.

Urban Bushland Council is currently urging RAC to reconsider investing in the Perth Surf Park. The proposed development threatens a critical patch of endangered Banksia Woodland in Jankakot, an important foraging habitat for Carnaby’s Black Cockatoos.
Despite public opposition, RAC WA plans to proceed with funding the project. While the Urban Bushland Council does not oppose the idea of a surf park, the chosen location is unsuitable and would lead to further loss of Perth’s unique bushland.
