The Conservation Council of WA (CCWA) is the state's peak community-based environmental organisation, representing over 80 member groups and tens of thousands of supporters. We are deeply concerned about the significant changes made to Western Australia’s environmental laws in 2024 and the flawed process through which they were developed and passed.
WA’s natural environment is facing increasing and compounding threats – from climate change and land-clearing to accelerating industrialisation. Long-term protection and resilience of our globally significant ecosystems require a strong and independent Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), backed by robust nature laws. Communities across WA are witnessing the impacts of environmental decline firsthand, and frustration is growing over governments’ failure to respond meaningfully.
