Forum - Point Peron Canal Estate or Coastal Park?

On 5 August the Hands Off Point Peron group are hosting an event in Subiaco as we work to highlight to wider WA the proposed Point Peron land grab by the Barnett Government. This is a WA State issue especially since WA public land is at stake.

Background:

There are currently two proposals for our public land at Point Peron - The Mangles Bay Marina (MBM) proposal (being driven by the Barnett Government) and the Cape Peron Coastal Park (CPCP) proposal being driven by the community.

The MBM proposal is to rezone 77 hectares of public land in the Rockingham Lakes Regional Park at Point Peron and sell it for private canal housing, inland marina and commercial development.

The CPCP proposal is to create a “World class conservation and recreation park for locals and visitors alike, in harmony with nature and our heritage” – a tourist attracting coastal park that will draw state, national and international tourists in much the same way that Kings Park is WA’s number one tourist attraction with 6 million visitors per annum. The CPCP proposal is in keeping with the 1964 Point Peron land transfer agreement between Prime Minister Robert Menzies and WA Premier Sir David Brand.

This free community forum will include a presentation of the community driven Cape Peron Coastal Park concept plan compared to the Barnett Governments MBM canal housing estate plan.
