Jirndawurrunha, as it is known to Yindjibarndi People, is a critical ground water source that has been severely depleted since industrialisation in the Pilbara region.
Jirndawurrunha supports vital ecosystems, central to the Yindjibarndi Nation's way of life.
The other name for Jirndawurrunha is the Millstream Aquifer.
Excessive water extraction from the Millstream Aquifer through the Water Corporation, coupled with climate change is impacting the landscape and broader environment.
The Water Corporation has recently made an application which seeks to renew a six gigalitre abstraction license from the Millstream Aquifer and increase the take by 50 per cent, to nine gigalitres.
This application has been referred to the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) by the Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation.
Now we need your support.
The latest public comment period through the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has now closed.
