Save Our Little Penguins

There are now less than 120 Little Penguins remaining.

Studies of the Penguin Island colony in Western Australia show that penguin numbers have declined drastically by over 94% since 2007.

Management plans are outdated.

Without urgent WA Government action, they are at risk of population collapse and extinction.

We need the State Government to

  • Update the expired Penguin Island & the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park management plans
  • Fund to enforce marine park rules and stop watercraft injuries
  • A plan to bring penguins back from the brink of extinction that is implemented
  • Look to where penguin conservation is working elsewhere

Phillip Island Nature Parks (in Victoria) is a great example of where Little Penguins are cared for, protected and where sustainable tourism works with nature. It is a unique conservation organisation that operates complementary ecotourism experiences on Phillip Island. Revenue raised through the attractions is invested in vital research, environment and education programs. Phillip Island is home to the largest little penguin colony in the world.
