The Recommendations

Back from the Brink identifies critical issues in Western Australia's environmental policy and puts forward practical recommendations for decision-makers, government agencies and policymakers to drive meaningful reform.

What's clear is that we have a lot of opportunities in Western Australia to strengthen biodiversity protection and recovery.

This is a starting point. This is not an exhaustive list of recommendations by any means, but it is the first iteration of a suite of reforms that community groups, business and local government can collectively advocate for to help bring nature back from the brink.

The recommendations are presented in four key governance principle sections:

  • Strategic decision making
  • Environmental law and processes
  • Monitoring, compliance, enforcement and transparency
  • Effectiveness, independence and public participation in decision making
